RESEARCH EXPERIENCE (past 5 years) 1991 - 1996 Northern Province (Former Gazankulu) (South Africa) : - Research on the utilisation of renewable natural resources in the Mnisi of the Mhala district of the Northern Province; - 1994 -- Northern Province (South Africa): - Establishment of the Bokgobelo Nature Reserve for the Masemola people (Northern Sotho), Nebo district in conjunction with the Centre for Wildlife Management (UP) - (Nature Reserve in tribal area). North West Province (South Africa): - Co-developer of the PPP-method for capacity building and empowerment of rural communities. 1996 KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa): - Research for the ARC (Agriculture Research Council) in conjunction with the Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute on the Makatini flats: " A project on sustainable, and acceptable control of ticks and tick-borne disease of livestock, and the development of strategies for the control of ticks and tick-borne diseases of cattle and small livestock that are effective, sustainable and acceptable to the cattle farmers of Zululand." Kenya: Research programme in conjunction with the Centre for Wildlife Management at the University of Pretoria. Tanzania: Ngorongoro Conservation Area (run by Maasai pastoralists adjacent to the Serengeti National Park; Zambia: Luangwa Integrated Rural Development Project (LIRDP), Zambia; the Admi-nistrative Design for Game Management Areas (ADMADE); Zimbabwe: Com-mu-nal Areas Manage-ment Programme for Indigenous Resources (CAMPFIRE) (Kariba dam, Victoria Falls, and Hwange National Park). 1997 Kenya: - Namunyak Wildlife Conservation Trust, Sarapa and Sapashe Group Ranches, Northern Kenya; - Ilngwezi Group Ranch in the Ilngwezi location, Laikipia District of Northern Kenya; 1998 Swaziland: - Community outreach programmes of the Swaziland National Trust Commission in Swaziland. KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa): - Community Conservation Programme of the former Natal Parks Board. Kosi Bay estuary, St Lucia Wetlands Reserve, Hluhluwe and Umfolozi Game Reserves. 1999 KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa): - Appointed as programme co-ordinator for two multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary research programmes. Mozambique: - Anthropologist in research team regarding the Restoration of the Elephant herd in the Tembe Elephant Reserve and the Maputo Elephant Reserve.
