RECENT WORK EXPERIENCE

1/99 to date - Currently, I am employed by the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension and Rural Development as a Research Officer for the European Union Project titled : The effect of rural inequality on fertility and migration, and hence, agricultural sustainability: A comparison of dry-lands farming in Botswana, India and South Africa. The same research will be the bases of my PhD study. Main Responsibilities include:

**Participating in all discussions to finalize the research instrument

**Carry out research with other members of the research team

**Co-ordinate the South African component of the research (field work, data capturing, data analysis, report writing).

**Any other tasks as assigned by the head of the department

**On a part time basis, I am also the Assistant Director in the PostGraduate School of Agriculture and Rural Development, responsible for the outreach program; and a Co-ordinator of the Rural Development / Project Analysis & Planning Curriculum and teaching materials development process.

2/98 - 12/98 - Employed by the Land and Agricultural Policy Centre, LAPC, as a Program Manager, Agricultural Policy and Rural Enterprise (APRE) Main Responsibilities included:

**Management of the APRE with a full time staff of 4 and a number of external research teams working on research in the areas of policy development, rural development and SMMEs; including:

**Long term research programme on agricultural policy with emphasis on development of an enabling environment for sustainable and equitable rural development of the historically marginalized people.

**Providing options on key policy issues in the agriculture sector, and reviewing existing policies. **Identifying policy and institutional measures to promote local enterprise development and job creation in rural areas.

**General socio-economic analysis and policy advice as require by other institutions and by departments of agriculture at both national and provincial levels.

OTHER RELEVANT EXPERIENCES

During the period 1988-1994, while I was employed at the University of Swaziland, I was called upon from time to time by Mananga Agricultural Manage-ment Centre, in Mhlume, to deliver modules on Gender Issues, Agricultural Project Apprais-al, and Management of Rural Development, to Managers, planners and executives who attend short courses there. My practi-cal and research experience on food security and gender issues cannot be over-emphasised. I was a resource person to the Kellogg Foundation - Faculty of Agriculture Programme that train-ed rural women leaders in Swaziland. On three occasions, I was a resource consultant for FAO on gender related issues.
