RESEARCH INTERESTS

Various aspects of urban geography including a period from 1978-1987 when research was focused on Johannesburg's hawkers, past and present, and on the general urban geography of Johannesburg from 1980 to the present.

PUBLICATIONS

Two books on aspects of Urban Geography (one translated into Spanish), joint authorship of a school textbook, and just over 60 papers in learned journals and/or books and conference proceedings.

Currently editing a manuscript that I have written provisionally entitled Johannesburg 1986-1998: the Unfolding Geography of South Africa's Premier Metropolis. It was commissioned by the publishing house of John Wiley as part of their World Cities Series.

HOBBIES

Heraldry, history of France during the Second Empire, and working border collies.
