INPUT OUTPUT ANALYSIS for
PRACTITIONERS Version 1.0.1 (IOW) is an elegant and easy
to use input output table manipulation Windows application with a wide array of
capabilities. IOW is a menu driven input output modeling system, written in the
C++ programming language specifically for Windows based
machines. The package implements nearly every method
described in Input Output Analysis, Foundations and Extensions, by Ron Miller
and Peter Blair (Prentice Hall, Englewood Cliffs, N.J., 1985), and much more.
In addition to providing single region analysis capabilities, IOW supports the
analysis of interregional systems.
Analysts with input output
tables generated by IMPLAN or other models have full access to IOW, which will
import or export tables in ASCII or Lotus format. Industry sectors and regions
can be inserted, rearranged, deleted, aggregated, and subtracted from one
another.
Tables can be printed to
screen, file or printer, and the program includes a print and screen display
setup facility. Tables can be displayed in coefficient or transaction format,
and gross product accounts can be generated and printed or displayed
easily.
IOW also has extensive table
editing capabilities. Values and labels can be changed easily. Blocks can be
moved, copied or erased, and rows or columns of transactions values can be
uniformly increased or decreased. There is a table balancing facility and the
RAS bi proportional adjustment method, complete with the ability to constrain
selected values, is easily implemented.
Of course IOW also supports
multiplier analyses, final demand impacts assessments, and linkage analysis, as
well as an implementation of inverse sensitivity analysis. IOW provides the ability to perform nearly
every function that analysts and practitioners use. The program was written by
Guy R. West, of the University of Queensland, Australia, to support a variety
of private and public sector applications. IOW is distributed with an extensive
Help capability.
The Complimentary Version of
IOW supports models with up to 30 rows and columns. At present, there is no
commercial counterpart or version to accommodate larger models, although a
professional version is anticipated. This version is seen as an ideal
instructional tool.
This version of IOW is distributed free of charge along with a Demo table.
