CONDUCTING RESEARCH OF SCHOLARLY SIGNIFICANCE AND
PRACTICAL IMPORTANCE SINCE 1965

 ____________________________________________________________________

The RRI was founded in 1965. Professor William H. Miernyk, a regional economist trained at Harvard, came to West Virginia University as founding director. His pioneering research on input-output modeling rapidly brought the Institute international prominence in regional economics and the new multidisciplinary field of regional science.

Our research focuses on theories and history of regional development, methods for studying regions, and policies for stimulating their development. RRI provides the following opportunities:

    Research support
    Working papers
    Graduate student research
    Seminars, workshops
    Post-doctoral research fellow
    Web Book of Regional Science
    Seed grants
    Visiting scholars
    Cross-disciplinary stimulation
    Team-oriented research

SPOTLIGHT

"I think the RRI is one of the best institutes in the regional science field in
the U.S. and has an excellent human network worldwide."
                                                           Sung-Goan Choi,  Visiting Scholar

"It's name says it all. The Regional Research Institute is an ideal place for       regional studies."
                                                Junbo Yu, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow

"I came to the RRI to join with a community of like-minded researchers       focused on regional economic development."
