Research Interests:
Regional economic development, technological change, industrial clustering, steel industry dynamics, nonlinear dynamic models, interregional trade, bi-proportional methods, regional econometric/ input-output modeling, and socioeconomic and environmental systems simulation.

Bio:
Dr. Jackson joined the West Virginia University faculty as Regional Research Institute Director and Professor of Geology and Geography in January 2002. His first appointment was in the Geography department and the Center for Governmental Studies at Northern Illinois University. From 1986 through December 2001 he was a member of the Geography department faculty at The Ohio State University. While at OSU, he also served for two years as Associate Director for Research Computing. Dr. Jackson's research interests center on regional economic health, performance, and development, with topics ranging from the refinement and reformulation of regional economic accounting frameworks through the formulation and implementation of input-output and econometric models to interregional commodity flow modeling, object-orientation, micro-simulation, and nonlinear dynamic models of social systems. He has been engaged in a wide variety of funded research projects with support from such public and private agencies as the National Science Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and has published his work in numerous academic journals. He is a past member of the editorial board of The Professional Geographer and Papers in Regional Science, and a current member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Regional Science, the Australasian Journal of Regional Studies, and Geographical Analysis, where he is also an Executive Committee member. He has participated on NSF review panels, was the 2006 Chair of the North American Regional Science Council, Council Member for the Southern and Western Regional Science Associations, and has served the Regional Science Association International by establishing its primary Internet web site and as the editor of the Association's Newsletter. He is Adjunct Professorship of Geography at The Ohio State University and of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh.
