Brief Bio:
Research interests are in population geography, regional science, transportation, and aspects of urban and economic geography. Other activities include: Executive Secretary of the Western Regional Science Association (WRSA), Senior editorial board member, the Journal of Regional Science (formerly co-editor of the journal 1994-2002, with Gordon Mulligan); Vice President, Association of Pacific Coast Geographers; and serving on the editorial boards of Geographical Analysis, Annals of Regional Science, International Regional Science Review, Canadian Journal of Regional Science, Papers in Regional Science, Studies in Regional Science, International Journal of Environmental Creation and Geographic and Environmental Modeling. Plane was awarded the Japanese "International Prize for Environmental Creation" in 2002, for population and migration research.
