Brief Bio:
A native of Wales, Dr. Rees received his B.A. from the University of Wales, M.A. from the University of Cincinnati, and Ph.D. from the London School of Economics. His expertise includes the study of economic development and the impact of public policy on urban and regional change. He has published three books and over 70 journal articles, book chapters and government reports. Recent publications have appeared in Economic Development Commentary, Regional Studies, Progress in Human Geography, L'Espace Geographique, and Snapshots of the Carolinas. Professor Rees was a member of Governor Hunt's Task Force on Business Incentives 1994-5. In addition to several research grants from the National Science Foundation, Dr. Rees has also been active in the public policy arena. He has conducted studies for the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, the General Accounting Office, the Office of Technology Assessment, the Economic Development Administration and the Small Business Administration. He has been an advisor on urban policy issues to both the Carter and Bush administrations. In a recent study, he was included among the top 30 most cited geographers in the United States.
